Norma’s Bronze Resin Sculptures
Taking the step from ceramic to bronze can be daunting but North Bristol Artist Norma Rowe found the whole experience a fascinating adventure.
Norma said “After taking a course in ‘clay sculpture from life’ last year with Sophie Howard I was showing my ceramic sculpture on the 2011 Trail. From a chance comment made by a visitor, and another artist giving me details of where to enquire, I have had my first sculptures cast in bronze resin.
“This was a very exciting process with decisions to be made regarding finishes etc. and trips made back and forth to the depths of the countryside outside Clevedon. I am very pleased with the results which gives a much greater definition to the pieces, highlighting details which were overlooked in the original terracotta versions.
“It also means that I can sell the bronze casts to interested parties without parting with my favourite originals!
More pictures can be seen on my website together with images of my paintings.”

NBA Novice Has A Great Weekend!
New NBA member Sandy Creighton has written the following account of his first time displaying his work on the 2011 NBA trail - plus a link to a really interesting YouTube film where Sandy explains his paintings. Do take a look…
Venue 44 - Sandy Creighton
“After an eternity of finishing and framing work, tidying the house and piling junk in the bedroom, the weekend of the trail arrived. Would anyone come? Would they like my work? Would it rain?
But the sun shone. People came. I found myself talking animatedly about how and why I made my work. They liked my pictures. The weekend was a success!
I enjoyed the whole experience enormously, so thank you to all the hard working NBA members who made it work so well. I’m already looking forward to next November.”

The NBA Trail at St Barts Church
St. Barts Church on St. Andrews Park played host to five artists exhibiting on the trail this year: Paul Bullivant, Mary Collett, Shelley Davies, Chuck Elliott and Pete Moorhouse showed a wide range of exciting work in a variety of media including drawing, painting, photography, prints and sculpture.
The artists were all delighted with the response from visitors.
Photographer Paul Bullivant said:
“Helped by the beautiful weather, the numbers of visitors to St. Barts far exceeded our expectations. Everyone we spoke to was very positive about the range and quality of the work as well as the excellent tea and cakes provided by the St. Bart’s church members.’
Paul added ‘The varied programme of live music throughout the two days (organised by Steve Perry) is also a great attraction and this year involved 11 different performances including nearly 100 local musicians and singers playing everything from sea shanties to big band jazz.’
The artists all agreed that everyone seemed to be having a great time and so they are already making plans for the trail next year on November 24th and 25th 2012 – only 50 weeks to go!

Chuck Elliott Exhibits at Spectra 1
SPECTRA I is the first of a three-part survey of artists for whom dynamic colour relationships form a central pillar of their practice.
Hosted at the Londonewcastle Project Space (28 Redchurch Street, London E2) and curated by The Future Tense, SPECTRA I will be on view from November 24th and will feature a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, animation and digital art.
The opening reception is on Thursday 24th November 2011, from 6pm, and then the exhibition is open daily until 18th December.
The show is a celebration of bold use of colour in a contemporary art world which is endlessly fascinated with white space, minimalism and fragility. SPECTRA I explores the artists, mediums and substrates boldly defining the current colour zeitgeist and features a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, animation and digital art from a vital international roster of 7 artists for whom colour is a critical and central element of their artistic practice.
Artists include Lee Baker, Adam Ball, Chuck Elliott, Katrin Fridriks, Haroshi, James Marshall and Jen Stark.
North Bristol artist Chuck Elliott will be exhibiting his work including his latest piece ‘Radial Two’, created specifically for the show:
